2022. Giant Sea Change 'flip' panel at Bremerhaven
2022. Giant Sea Change 'flip' panel at German Maritime Museum, Bremerhaven

The German Maritime Museum (Deutsches Schifffahrts Museum) in Bremerhaven has created a giant panel with pleated prints of one of my Sea Change tidal pairs. It greets visitors to their 'Change Now' exhibition, subtitled 'Ships Change The World'. By moving left and right, visitors see the low tide image change into the high tide one and vice versa.

Eight pairs of Sea Change tidal photographs formed part of the ‘Splash’ group exhibition at the Potentiale Festival in the Alpine town of Feldkirch during the weekend of November 9-11.

The show was located at the Villa Muller, perched high above the town, and curator David Beger had the brilliant idea of placing my prints in the villa’s empty swimming pool. They were appreciated by large numbers of people who made the ascent to the villa up the many steps of the Himmelsteig – the ‘stairway to heaven’.

Autumn 2016. Sea Change in Cologne

An exhibition of my Sea Change tidal photographs started on September 16 at the schaelpic photokunstbar gallery as part of the Internationale Photoszene festival in Cologne, Germany. It runs till October 28.

The opening on 15 September was attended by over 80 people. Tobias Kern and Martin Frech from the Schaelpic gallery gave introductory talks and I then answered questions which were translated into German by an interpreter.

Sea Change was a 10-year photographic project and consists of diptychs showing identical views around the British coast at low and high tide. It won the 2011 LensCulture portfolio grand prize, and the book, Sea Change: A Tidal Journey Around Britain, was chosen as Photography Book of the Month by Sean O’Hagan in The Observer newspaper in September 2012

May 2015. Godrevy exhibition at gallery@oxo
May 2015. Godrevy exhibition at gallery@oxo

There will be an exhibition of my Godrevy photographs at gallery@oxo, South Bank, London, on 20-25 May 2015.

Built in 1859, Godrevy is one of Britain’s most iconic lighthouses. Its beam reaches out over St Ives Bay, Cornwall, warning ships and boats of a treacherous half-submerged reef. It has figured in paintings and drawings by the generations of artists based in St Ives since the 1880s and was the inspiration for Virginia Woolf’s 'To The Lighthouse', based on her visits to the area during childhood holidays.

Taken in 2010-14, the photographs show the lighthouse in the context of its landscape, seascape, geology and weathers. The exhibition will include 17 large triptychs and 10 single images.
